UConn women now 100-0 in AAC after blowout of Cincinnati

The UConn women’s basketball team led Cincinnati 43-5 at halftime and went on to win 75-21 in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament.

UConn’s victory gave the Huskies a 100-0 record in AAC play. The Huskies dominated the Bearcats from the opening whistle, outscoring the opposition 38-0 for 15 minutes from the first quarter and into the third quarter at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

“I don’t know how to explain the runs,” Auriemma said after the game, according to the Hartford Courant. “I think you could say, ‘Well, the teams you’re playing.’ We’ve had some runs against some really good teams that you can’t explain. I think our defense has been pretty solid all year long…Because we play pretty good defense every night, we have a lot of opportunities to get out in transition.”

The Huskies (31-0) haven’t lost a conference game since the 2012 season. UConn has also won four out of the last five national championships and gone to the Final Four every year since 2006. Auriemma has led the program to 11 national titles overall and a 1,022-135 record.

UConn won the game without the help of All-American forward Gabby Williams, who tweaked her hip injury in the AAC quarterfinal. Azura Stevens led UConn with 21 points and had 13 rebounds. Napheesa Collier had 13 points in the win. Andeija Puckett scored five points for the Bearcats.
